Church History

Church History

Our first meeting was held at Emmanuel Lutheran church on April 4th, 2008. That faithful Friday brought 22 members who came to an agreement with Pastor Ofori to be part of the history of starting the first Ghanaian Methodist Church in Massachusetts.  Pastor Ofori joined the United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester in the year 2001 when he first arrived in the United States from Ghana and later became the music director of the Ghanaian Choir from 2001 to 2008. The Ghanaian population grew during my tenure but the taste of Ghanaian culture immersed in our style of worship was not found at Wesley United Methodist Church. Hence we established Good Shepherd to preach and worship God with Ghanaian authenticity, mixed with Ghanaian choral and high-life songs. So our journey began. We moved to a Lutheran Church nearby and after two weeks; we moved to 78 Webster Street where the church was inaugurated in October 2008 . In the year 2012, Good Shepherd bought its first church building at 21 Belmont Street, Worcester our mass grew.  Two and half years later in our purchased address, we sold the building to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science – MCPHS – due to lack of parking spaces. We bought land at 267 Harrington Way and constructed a new church building which has become our permanent worship center. God has been so faithful to us and every day we grow in number, strength and renewed confidence in the God that guides us.
